So far so good.
But how do we reconcile the fact that in the 1901 census at Toads Hole, in the Parish of Astley and Rural district Martley, we find William Bullock, aged 45 with wife Emily, aged 30. They have four children with them, Bertie, aged 11 and others 5, 4 and 1.
William is definitely the right age and in the right area. And the eldest child, Bertie could be Herbert. He is also the right age.
But where is the wife Elizabeth, where are the other children, and who is Emily?
We searched for and found a marriage certificate for William Bullock and Emily, who turned out to be Emily Agnes Jones.
